Historical note: The German BMW R12 motorcycle was produced from 1935 to 1942, with over 36,000 units built in military and civilian variants. A sports version of the R12 set a speed record of 279.5 km/h, which stood for 14 years. Due to its high reliability and lower cost compared to specialized army motorcycles like the BMW R-75 and KS-750, the BMW R-12 became the most numerous motorcycle in the German army.
