The SU-85, a medium-weight Soviet self-propelled artillery piece, was a tank destroyer in use from September 1943 to the end of World War II. Produced at the Uralmash heavy machinery plant from August 1943 to July 1944, a total of 2337 were built. Its 85mm D-5S gun could effectively engage medium tanks at over a kilometer and penetrate the frontal armor of heavy tanks at closer ranges.
