Train, driving, or weather-related wind, as well as a simple draught that occurs when the microphone is swung around, can lead to loud bubbling sounds that ruin a sound recording. Even the breath of a speaker close to the microphone can cause "plop sounds". The wind shield absorbs wind and ensures that it does not penetrate to the microphone capsule. For outdoor recording, a wind protection made of faux fur is best suited to keeping ordinary wind noise away from the microphone.
