For sale is a fascinating geological specimen found on the foreshore at Southend-on-Sea, Essex. This piece is a classic example of a "trace fossil" or an elongated sea-smoothed pebble, characteristic of the unique geology of the Thames Estuary. Likely a fossilized burrow cast (possibly Thalassinoides). These are formed when prehistoric crustacean tunnels in the London Clay were filled with sediment and mineralized over millions of years.
